Developing students’ English skills through online learning
Supporting this commitment, British Council’s award winning English Online programme has increased students’ English skills and boosted motivation for learning.
The Challenge
While UAM has an internal language programme, it needed a more extensive solution: to reach far higher numbers of students overall and to develop skills for a wider range of language abilities. To achieve the desired impact of opening up educational and work opportunities for participants, it was essential that the programme was results-oriented and developed skills which could be used in real-world situations.
As the university’s scholarship programme would give credits to cover the majority of the course fee, UAM needed a platform which would track attendance and participation. They also required the course to have a clear curriculum and aims and be delivered by experienced and qualified teachers from a reputable organisation.
A flexible schedule offering a wide range of timings was crucial to fit in with students’ timetables. The programme needed to empower learners to take control of their own learning journeys and engage them to ensure course completion.

"I like the flexibility of the schedules, it's a course which aligns with your rhythm and gives you the opportunity to learn English which opens doors for you. There's a good dynamic and the teachers push students to communicate in relevant and practical contexts for a university student."
Isabel Guzmán Guzmán (Undergraduate in architecture)
"I am comfortable with the structure of the platform, it's useful, it lets you study in your own way. There are a diverse range of classes and teachers. I like how the teachers identify errors and give good feedback on pronunciation. I would recommend the platform as a great way to communicate, and practise speaking, pronunciation and style"
Margarita Alcantara Martinez (Graduate)
"I would recommend the platform for its diversity, you are in contact with people from a variety of places and that's different from what you would find in other courses."
Dulce María Martinez Cortes (Doctorate student)
"Learning with people from various countries has helped me broaden my horizons. My English level has improved despite being at a basic level"
Tania Andrea Rivera Gomez (student)
